High Pressure Die Casting

High pressure die casting (HPDC) is the leading process technology for the production of Mg products particularly for the transportation industry. Compared with other casting methods HPDC is the quickest and probably the most economical process.
In the HDPC process, the metal is forced into a high-grade steel die at high speed and pressure. The Magnesium casting temperature is roughly 700°C at casting. HDPC is an established process producing high quality castings with tight dimensional tolerances.

Gravity Casting
This process consists of pouring molten metal into a mold using gravitational force. Although the current production of magnesium parts is dominated by the HPDC process due to its high productivity, gravity sand and permanent mold castings are used in a variety of structural applications, mainly in the aerospace industries. Gravity die casting method is a cost-effective method when manufacturing in small numbers or when heat treatment is needed to improve the mechanical properties.
