Aluminum industry
A variety of applications has been found for magnesium in its metal form across numerous industries. Some of the most outstanding areas where magnesium metal is used include production of aluminum alloys (generally the 5xxx and 6xxx series). The addition of magnesium to aluminum increases strength through solid solution strengthening.

Automotive industry
Magnesium alloys are becoming more and more attractive for various automotive applications based on the combination of low density and high weight to strength ratio. Magnesium is experiencing impressive growth in the automotive industry due to the requirement for improved fuel efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The majority of magnesium applications can be found in automotive interior applications. Current applications include instrument panels, steering wheels and seat structure.

Metal reduction
Magnesium’s relatively high affinity of pure magnesium towards sulphur makes it ideal for use in iron and steel desulphurization applications. Moreover, pure magnesium also acts as a reducing agent for the production of metals such as titanium and zirconium.
